Patrick Mahomes Makes More than History: He Makes A Holy Moment and A Case for Looking at the “Faith” Factor in Sports

Faith, Family, Football

The Super Bowl featured many unexpected turns and moments. The Kansas City Chiefs were not expected to win the Super Bowl. So how did they manage to win — again?

The world tuned in again on Sunday to watch history being made — more than on the field.

This year, in additional to the usual commercials for featuring pharmaceuticals, beer, fast food and State Farm, we witnessed advertisments for Jesus and a Hallow Catholic App advertisement featuring Mark Whalberg inviting the viewers to “Stay Prayed Up.”

The Kansas City Chiefs were down, but not out at half-time. The half-time show featuring Usher and Lil Jon asked “Turn Down for What?”

Rather than Turn Down for anything, Patrick Mahomes appears to embrace the strategy of Giving the Glory to God. In his interview just after winning the 2024 he gave God the Glory.

He also gave God the Glory after the Super Bowl win in 2023.

Hail Mary passes are nothing new to football, but could it be time for a social scientists to track, measure and study the role “Faith” plays in games and Super Bowls?

Could the “Faith” factor be the new X factor that makes the difference between winning and losing big games and Super Bowls? Time will tell, but right now, signs point to yes.
